Serveur proxy est un serveur qui agit comme un intermédiaire pour les demandes des clients cherchant des ressources dans d'autres serveurs. Un client se connecte au serveur proxy, demandant un service, tel qu'un fichier, une page Web ou une autre ressource disponible à partir d'un autre serveur et le serveur mandataire évalue la demande comme un moyen de simplifier et de maîtriser sa complexité. Aujourd'hui, la plupart des procurations sont proxies web, facilitant l'accès au contenu sur le Web et en fournissant l'anonymat.
Proxy transparents ne pas cacher votre adresse IP réelle et il est facilement déterminée. Ce type de proxy sert à un usage particulier: il permet en passant par les pare-feu locaux qui pourraient bloquer votre accès au site.
